Notes
Thomas More has had Georgetown’s number since joining the Mid-South. They are 6-3 all-time but had a 5-game win streak going before Georgetown beat Thomas More in the MSC Tourney on their way to winning it. Thomas More has also never lost AT Georgetown, which is mindboggling. Thomas More comes into this game with a 16pt win @ No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan and a 25pt home win against RV Cumberlands. They are so well coached, and Reid Jolly and company won’t come in afraid. They are going to share the ball and use a balanced attack. They are also going to use their stingy team defense to try and force Georgetown into bad, contested shots. Georgetown will play at a little bit of a faster pace than Thomas More, but Thomas More gets the most out of their possessions, so Georgetown is going to have to really defend and not let Thomas More get comfortable offensively. At the PG spot, Jacob Jones and Jaquay Wales will be a fun battle. They are two different types of PGs. Both are great at breaking down the defense and creating shots for teammates. Jones is more of an aggressive scorer though and has developed into one of the Top PG’s in the NAIA. The main battle here will be between the All-Americans, Reid Jolly and Kyran Jones. Jolly has been a man on a mission in the early parts of this season. Kyran is a high motor, relentless rebounder who loves contact. He is a double-double machine. It will be interesting to see some of the matchups in this one, but you can expect both teams to scheme to try and take away the other’s strengths. The coaching in this one is always fascinating. Chris Briggs, G’Town, is one of the best in the NAIA, winning two National Championships already. Justin Ray, in his 3 short seasons in the NAIA, has gained the respect of coaches across the NAIA. The guy can flat coach and even though Thomas More is headed D2 next year, it’s been fun watching his teams compete. This game will have plenty of in-game adjustments and the talent and coaching in this one makes it a must watch game!
