Opening Round Breakdown
The River States Conference will be the first conference tournament out of the gate as they get started tonight with opening round matchups between the 4/5 seeds in each division.
IU East vs WVU Tech
IU East comes in boasting two of the Top 5 scorers in the River States Conference with Jake Johnson and Colt Meyer. WVU Tech will counter with one of the best Defensive Efficiency metrics in the league. This will be a game of pace and who can control it. IU East will look to push the tempo a little more while WVU Tech is going to try and slow it down. In their only matchup of the season, WVU Tech took home the win, 81-76, at home. Tech, in that game, held Colt Meyer to just 2-13 from the field and just 9 total points. Tech is led by Andrew Work, who averages 14ppg. The Junior has been really tough to guard this season and if Tech is going to get the road win tonight, they will need Andrew to go to work offensively.
Ohio Christian vs Brescia
Ohio Chrisitan has already beat Brescia on the road this season and now get to host the Bearcats tonight with a chance to extend their season. Jimmy Salamone and Devon Miller lead the way for OCU. Brescia will counter with Tay Smith, who went for 25 points in the previous meeting between these two teams. If Brescia is going to get the road win, they are going to have to find ways to get stops. They have lost 9 of their last 10 games coming in, but as the tourney goes, records don’t matter. What matters is what you do NOW. A win or go home for both teams here!
