IU Northwest @ RV Saint Francis (IL) | 3pm CT
The two best teams in the CCAC go to battle in Round 2 this afternoon! IU Northwest won the 1st meeting, a 73-70 home win back on December 7th. Saint Francis has won 9-straight games since that game. They also come into this one 9-0 at home this season. Saint Francis currently also holds a 1-game lead over both IUN and Saint Xavier in the CCAC Standings! Both teams carry a really nice 1-2 punch that will be fun matchups today. IUN has two of the CCAC’s Top 5 scorers in Trace Williams (19.7ppg) and Dannie Smith (16.3ppg). Saint Francis will counter back with Aitor Anabitarte (13.7ppg) and Rahmel Davis (13.3ppg)! Obviously SXU will still has a say in the CCAC Regular Season Title as well, but BIG game today for two teams hunting down that CCAC title!
Bryan (TN) @ RV Columbia International (SC) | 3pm CT
Yet another 1st place battle today as Bryan, earlier this week, took a half game lead in the AAC! You also have a tough Pikeville team lurking a game behind! BUT this game is big for other reasons as well! As it currently stands, Bryan is on the bubble and a road win today, would be a nice resume boost! A loss could also send CIU to the bubble. So this game has both AAC Championship and National Tournament implications! This is just the 1st meeting between the two on the season. Round 2 will be right before the AAC Tournament, so while this is a big game still, the February 15th meeting could end up being bigger. Especially if both teams keep playing good basketball! CIU is coming off their 1st NAIA loss since November 16th. They are playing without Christian Howard, who was a big part of what they do! Rams need a bounce back win today!
No. 19 Rocky Mountain (MT) @ No. 11 Montana Tech | 5:00pm CT
Rocky is coming off of a home loss to Providence, who honestly, normally gives them problems! Now they head off to face No. 11 Montana Tech, a team they beat just 21 days ago, 63-55. Tech currently holds a 1-game lead over both Rocky and Providence. They are 12-0 at home this season, but oddly enough, Rocky has been better on the road this season then at home as they have only lost once on the road this season. In the 1st game, Tech had a lot of issues putting the ball in the basket as they had one of their worst shooting performances on the season. You expect that to be different at home today. The way that the Frontier Conference is set up (and this is the final season for it this way) is that each teams plays one another 3x. With Tech still having to go BACK to Rocky once more this season, tonight is an important game for them to get if they are going to win a FC Title! All in all, these are two tournament teams, who I think can make deep runs! So as a fan, sit back and enjoy a Top 25 matchup between two really good and well coached teams!
No. 5 College of Idaho @ Southern Oregon | 7pm CT
College of Idaho is coming off a huge road win last night against rival Oregon Tech! It was their 7th straight win and gave them the outright lead in the Cascade Conference and the regular season sweep over Oregon Tech. No rest for the wicked though as they head to face a red-hot Southern Oregon team. SOU has only lost once since adding pieces at the semester break. They are also undefeated at home, even though they haven’t actually played there much this season (5-0). Coach Colby Blaine is usually great at keeping his team focused. They are coming off of a high emotion win last night so there could be a little bit of a hangover. However, the Yotes seem locked in defensively and when they are doing that they tend to be like a python, who constricts it’s body to strangle it’s prey. That matchup zone is really tough to figure out, especially off of a short scout! They have also won 11-straight games against SOU coming into today. SOU’s last win over the Yotes came on February 15th of 2019. Should be a fun one tonight in Ashland, Oregon!
