We were welcomed with GREAT news yesterday, as the NAIA Council of Presidents announced that they will be giving all NAIA Fall and Winter athletes an extra year of eligibility:
A couple of things to take from this announcement. By no means do we expect every senior in this class to stay for an extra year. Many will elect to go make money in the real world, or be offered a pro contract and elect to go play pro basketball. It is our belief that you will still see some roster turnover.
If you’re a recruit or parent reading this, I don’t think you need to panic and sign just to a school quite yet. If you are comfortable with a coach, program, and institution then by all means sign. Just don’t feel pressured into a spot that you will hate because you’re afraid to lose a scholarship offer. The thing about it is that if a school REALLY wants and believes in you, than they will wait for you for a bit longer.
Either way this is an exciting time for us NAIA fans. No matter who decides to stay or go, there will be no shortage of talent in the NAIA! Coaches will have to navigate their rosters a bit and see what Seniors plan to stay an extra season. This will help them gauge their roster construction as they continue to recruit and put out offers.
With Covid-19 most of the NAIA leagues shortened their schedules, so we are starting to see league games being played already! Last night we had games from both the AAC, and the KCAC!
Huge win for Bethel (KS) last night, as they knocked off RV and KCAC favorite Oklahoma Wesleyan. Obviously, it’s just one game, but in a very competitive league these wins go a long ways in the hopes for a regular season championship!
Here are the rest of the scores from last night:
MBB – November 04, 2020All Times Local* denotes a Conference game
It’s important to remember that this year we will have a rolling, flexible schedule as games get postponed and pushed back to later dates. This has been and will continue to be a common occurrence as we push forward through the 2020-2021 season!
Exciting times for us as we launch our first episode of NHR – The Podcast on Saturday morning! Join Junior and Trev every Saturday morning as we talk NAIA Hoops, break down some of the games from the week before, and what games we are looking forward to for the week ahead.
While we have had a tougher time uploading our NHR magazine and getting it set up the way we were hoping, we are excited to launch our 1st Podcast this weekend!
