Five Men’s Players to Watch
#3 Cameron Hines 5’10 Sr.*, USAO
2020-21 2nd Team All-American.
Cameron already has one buzzer beater this season and while I am sure they are hoping one won’t be needed tonight, you can still expect the Drovers to lean on him and Hall tonight at home vs MidAm.
#3 Leondre Washington 6’0 Sr.*, LSU-Shreveport
2020-21 3rd Team All-American.
Leondre led the RRAC in scoring last season. That was while having 1st team All-American Kadavion Evans in the same backcourt. The Pilots brought in some more size this season, but you can still expect Leondre to be the primary scorer tonight against a good MACU squad.
#11 Markell Turner 6’2 So., Union
2020-21 1st Team All-American.
AAC Player of the Year
Turner is the NAIA’s top leading scorer from last season. He is going to need to have a big game tonight vs the defending National Champs!
#11 Myles Corey 6’0 Fr., William Jessup
Myles was one of our favorite players last year. Just a Freshman he burst onto the scene putting up really good numbers against a very heavy NCAA D1 schedule. He is no doubt one of the best players out West and is coming off of a 21pt performance this weekend against NCAA D1 UC-Davis.
#32 Trey Brown 6’7 Sr.*, Morningside
2020-21 2nd Team All-American.
Trey is back for his Super Senior season. While he has a new head coach, he system won’t change and he should still put up monster numbers again this season. He has a Peru St team that lacked size last season and has some transfers coming in this year that will get their first taste of the big man tonight.
Games of the Day
RV Union @ #1 Shawnee State 6pm CT
Two teams that were picked to win their respected leagues in what has the makings to be a good game. Shawnee had to grind out a win vs. Wilberforce in their opener. While they are talented, they seemed to be finding their way still after losing two All-Americans last season. Expect a better showing tonight as they shake off the 1st game jitters. Union on the other hand IS playing their first game of the season tonight. The Bulldogs will look to pull off the upset behind 1st Team All-American Markell Turner.
#6 LSU-Shreveport vs RV MACU 7:30pm CT
Two storied programs who have had their fair share of success at the NAIA National Tournaments. Both are well coached and both will be hungry for an early season statement win. You worry about MACU’s size a bit in this one, but 3rd Team All-American, Terrance Jones and company really compete hard and won’t back down to the challenge. LSU-S will be playing it’s first game without 1st Team All-American Kadavion Evans. Both teams though return most of their rosters from last years squads who both lost in the NAIA Round of 32.
