Opening Round
No. 5 seed Pikeville (Ky.) (17-11, 13-9 MSC) vs No. 12 seed Wilberforce (Ohio) (3-24, 2-20 MSC) at 7 p.m. ET. Liveย statsย andย videoย
Pikeville’s Teddy Parham Jr. leads the MSC in scoring at 17.8ppg and in the Bears two wins over Wilberforce this season, he put up 24 and 27 points in those games. It has been a bit of a rough season for Wilberforce this season, but they have seen a couple of late season wins to get some confidence. They aren’t going to just roll over tonight. The winner here moves on to Bowling Green to face off against No. 4
No. 6 seed Tennessee Southern (17-10, 13-9 MSC) vs. No. 11 seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (10-17, 6-16 MSC) at 6 p.m. CT.
UT Southern swept the season series against Lindsey Wilson and will now look to move that to a 3-game season sweep. Both teams play a similar style and while UT Southern beat them back in November by 16, the last time they played, on January 19th, it was just a 4-point game. If Lindsey Wilson is going to win this one they are going to have to find answers for Kavion Hancock, Brady Brown and Adarion Hudson. Hancock sits 4th in the league in scoring and has had some monster games this season. The winner of tonight’s game will face No. 3 seed Thomas More (Ky.) on Saturday in Bowling Green.
No. 7 seed Cumberlands (Ky.) (17-11, 11-11 MSC) vs No. 10 seed Campbellsville (11-17, 6-16 MSC) at 7 p.m. ET.
ย Live statsย andย video
Cumberlands, behind the play of Steven Fitzgerald and Jahi Hinson, have the ability to win the MSC Tourney. Both sit inside the Top 5 in scoring in the MSC and when they are on, the Patriots are tough to beat. The Patriots swept the regular season series against Campbellsville, they come into this game losing three of their final five games. The Patriots are on the bubble and an early loss will have them nervous come selection show day. The winner will advance to take on No. 2 seed Freed-Hardeman on Saturday.
No. 8 seed Bethel (Tenn.) (14-13, 10-12 MSC) vs No. 9 seed Cumberland (Tenn.) (13-15, 9-13 MSC) at 8 p.m. CT.ย
Live statsย andย video
As expected, with an 8/9 matchup, these are two very similar teams. Cumberland, once a Top 15 team in the NAIA, has really struggled this semester. Jordan Stephens is the real deal and if Cumberland is going to win this game, they will need more consistent play behind him. This is a talented team, who has shown signs of being great (Up 23pts @ G’Town with 6min left), but after losing 4 of their final 5 games, including blowing that big lead, you wonder what confidence they have coming into this one. Bethel’s Querrion Gadson, has had some big performances this season already and Jeff Britt is a great coach. Should be a fun one here! Winner will take on Top-Seeded, Georgetown, in Bowling Green, on Saturday.
