Quarterfinal Matchups Breakdown
No.1 Oklahoma Wesleyan vs No.8 Ottawa (KS)
OKWU boasts both the KCAC POY, Jaden Lietzke and the KCAC DPOY in Derrick Talton Jr. Adding to the trio is Kaleb Stokes who is also having a really big year. The Eagles are as good defensively as anyone in the KCAC and when they are shooting the 3-ball well, which is often, they are going to be tough to beat. Ottawa is led by Deondre Buggage. The Braves have lost 4 of 5 coming into this one, including a 24pt loss to OKWU 11 days ago. Anything can happen in conference tournaments though, so don’t count out the Braves just yet.
No. 4 Southwestern (KS) vs No. 5 Bethany
Cevin Clark, Deng Bol and Andrew O’Brien continue to give Southwestern the triple threat that keeps them dangerous. The Builders, after a bit of a rough January, have recovered to win 6 of their final 8 games. Bethany, boasts 2 of the league’s top 4 scorers in Justin Brookens and Solomon Clayton. They have also won 9 of their last 10 games. That only loss came at the hands of Southwestern just 6 days ago.
No. 3 Bethel (KS) vs No. 6 York
What a 2nd semester Bethel has had. The Threshers have won 11 of their past 14 games, including wins at OKWU and vs Southwestern. The 11 wins this semester was good enough to push them ahead of Southwestern for the 3-seed. They are currently on the bubble and probably need another win or two to feel safe. York has lost 3 of their final 4 games. One of those losses was a home loss to Bethel, who swept them on the season.
No. 2 Kansas Wesleyan vs No. 7 Sterling
Alex LittleJohn and Jun Murdock have been quite the dynamic duo for KWU. A team who have only lost twice this semester, both road games. In the head-to-head matchup’s they have also beat Sterling by 18 and 26. Cedric Rollerson leads Sterling in scoring and was a 2nd team All-KCAC performer this season. They have lost 7 of their last 9 games headed into the tournament though.
